Rail Motorway Terminal

Inaugurated on July 17, 2025, the rail freight line, initiated by Brittany Ferries with the support of Ports de Normandie, SNCF Réseau, and Cherbourg Port, connects Spain to England and Ireland by ensuring the daily circulation of a train between Cherbourg-en-Cotentin and Bayonne. This alternative and complementary service to road-only transport represents approximately 20,000 heavy goods vehicle trailers transported annually by rail.

This Rail Motorway Terminal addresses current ecological and economic challenges, in a context of rising fuel prices, increasing environmental concerns, and the strong impact of Brexit on cross-Channel traffic. Transporting goods by rail rather than by truck offers a complementary and environmentally friendly alternative.

Thanks to this traffic, the Port of Cherbourg strengthens its position in cross-Channel trade.
